Becoming What I Want to Be
This is the a 5 minute "digital story" that I made at the request of Denver's Mizel Museum for their "Voices of Resilience" exhibit in 2009.
They chose 10 people to share a "voice" and to participate in a workshop to create one of these digital stories. I was asked to share my voice specifically as a gioret (convert), so it is from that place that this story is told. I was excited to do the piece because I thought I might be able to use it as an introduction when I speak on college campuses and perhaps for some other venues (hence the music in the beginning). Now a full grown woman, I don't really want to be defined by what I was up to at 16, so I tried hard to make the story less about my past and more about my future. Hopefully it will inspire my audience to grow as well.
